Supernova!

This is real cool and only comes around every so often - a star in a neighboring galaxy (Messier 82, pictured above) exploded a loooong time ago (12 million years ago, plus or minus) and the light from that explosion has just reached us. This is already the brightest supernova in 25 years, and it's continuing to get brighter - it's already visible with a small telescope, but this time next week it's likely to be easy to pick out in the night sky. Deets HERE...we'll check on this again in a couple of weeks.
