Port Of Los Angeles Terminal Costs

LOS ANGELES (AP) _ A city report finds the cost of overhauling a major container terminal at the Port of Los Angeles has more than doubled over the last four years, mostly because of design changes pushed through without the approval of elected officials.

The Los Angeles Times cites a city analysis that says the budget for the 173-acre terminal re-development has skyrocketed to $510 million _ up from the estimated cost of $245 million when the City Council authorized the project in 2009.

On Tuesday, the council is scheduled to discuss the price tag of the project, which is located north of the Vincent Thomas Bridge.

The Times says legal questions have been raised about whether port executives should have obtained approval for the project changes from the harbor commission and council.
